Permanent Eyeliner FAQs

What is Permanent Eyeliner Makeup?

Permanent Eyeliner Makeup is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (semi-permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble eyeliner makeup. Richard applies the eyeliner with a hand held tool without the use of any machines.

Does Permanent Eyeliner hurt?

Discomfort is minimal and 2 numbing creams are used to ensure the most comfortable procedure.  All clients have different thresholds of discomfort but Richard is gentle and very concerned for your comfort. Sensitivity is heightened during menstrual cycles or under the influence of alcohol.

How long does the Permanent Eyeliner service take?

We book each client for 2 hours. This includes consultation, numbing, perfecting and ensuring your comfort.

Is Permanent Eyeliner safe?

Yes, there are certain limitations of how permanent eyeliner can be applied. Richard only applies the pigment to the skin around the eye and only lines the lash line.  In theory, it is the same as any other skin tattoo.

Are the pigments safe?

Yes, all pigments are hypoallergenic, gamma sterilized, MRI safe, sterile and made in the USA.

Can Permanent Eyeliner look "natural' and "soft"?

Absolutely. Richard has mastered his technique and can create a subtle eyelash enhancement that resembles thicker eyelashes or a adding a shadow of your lashes. With the use of a hand tool he can control the amount of pigment that is applied.

What happens if I blink while I'm having the Permanent Eyeliner service?

Richard is skilled in stretching the skin with a tight grip. His hand muscles are much stronger than your eye muscles.

Do different skin types react differently to Permanent Eyeliner?

In short, yes. However, healed results are unique to each client. Results vary and can be attributed to a number of factors including; skin type, aftercare, medications and environmental exposure.

How is Richard Victor Permanent Cosmetics different from other makeup artists?

With Richard, you are getting not just a technician but a true artist. With hands-on experience of over 15 years, Richard has seen it all. He is patient, gentle, communicative and will work together with his clients to receive the best outcome.

How long does Permanent Eyeliner last?

Approximately 18-24 months with proper aftercare and follow up appointment(s). Skin type and lifestyle can effect the longevity of your cosmetic tattoo - we can not guarantee specific results.

Are there any reasons why I should not receive the Permanent Eyeliner procedure?

You must be 18+ to receive a service. As a safety precaution, we refrain from working on individuals who are pregnant or nursing. If you have previously microbladed eyebrows by another artist or are a male client, we do require a visual consultation via email before you are eligible to book an appointment. This is to ensure expectations and achievable results coincide with one another. If you are diabetic, you must insure your diabetes is well controlled. High blood sugar levels can complicate the healing process. We also refrain from working on individuals who are going through chemotherapy because they are at higher risks of bleeding and infection.

Can men have Permanent Eyeliner where it does not look like makeup?

Yes,  Richard can create a very subtle eyelash enhancement with tiny dots in the lashes that will enhance the eyes without looking like makeup. This looks great on both men or women.

Can I have Permanent Eyeliner with eyelash extensions?

Eyelash extensions must be fully removed prior to getting permanent eyeliner. The glue interferes with the tool.

Permanent Eyeliner After-care

What you should know after your service

Permanent Eyeliner post-care is very important to the the healing result.

You may experience the following for 3-5 days after this procedure. Eyelashes
sticking together in the morning, puffy eyes, redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising near the eyelid area or possibility of a slight peeling. If there is any swelling immediately after the procedure, an ice
pack is advisable. An ice pack should be applied for no more than 15 minutes at a time. Do not put ice directly on the area; wrap it in a tissue or cloth.

For the next 5 days:

Gently apply a light coat of the supplied ointment with a clean cotton swab daily once in the morning and once in the evening. It is normal to see pigment coming off onto the cotton swab. Keeping the area moist helps in the healing process. Do not allow treated area to dry out. If it dries out, it will scab and reject pigment. Make sure you do not put the ointment on/in your tear duct area. You do not want
to block your tear ducts. Keep this area clean.

Do not apply makeup to the tattooed area. Nothing but water or ointment should be on or near the treated area. Ex.) Mascara, eyeshadows, powder, foundation, shampoo, moisturizer, etc. You can risk a color change or bacterial infection.

Avoid increased sweating including practicing sports or exercise, swimming, hot sauna or steam room, long showers, hot bath, and hot tubs.

Avoid sun tanning or salon tanning.

When showering, keep your face away from the shower head, or as an alternative take a bath.

Keep fingers off area and keep it clean to avoid infection. Do not attempt to scratch or pick away any crust along the eyelid. Early removal of pigment crust may result in areas with insufficient pigment. You may carefully cleanse around the eyelids in the morning by splashing warm water on the eyes. This may also help with eyelashes sticking together. Gently dab the eyelids following cleansing with a moist cotton ball or cloth.

For the next 30 days:

Do not sunbathe without the use of sunglasses. The use of sunscreen will help the color not to fade.

Do not swim in chlorine pools, ocean or hot tub. If you must use a
chlorine pool, keep treatment area as dry as possible and use a light coat of supplied aftercare
treatment or antibiotic ointment.

Do not rub vigorously when washing your face.

Do not use eyelash growth serum.

Limit use of facial cleansers/eye creams on makeup area, they can cause fading or color change.

Once completely healed in 30 days, to help preserve your completely healed results:

Avoid over exposure to the sun. Use hats or sunglasses to protect from the sun. Sun exposure/UV rays may cause the color pigment to fade more quickly.

Chlorine, glycol acid, microdermabrasion, and other cosmetic products can lighten the pigment with repeated use. When getting any procedures, whether it be cosmetic or not, done to your face please let the individual performing the service know about your permanent makeup to avoid the area.

After your initial procedure, the entire healing process and final result will take about a month. At that time, you may come back for the perfecting session within 2 months. After that, average eyeliner lasts about 2 years. Although some eyeliner lasts longer, its recommended to have a touch up every 18-24 months. Have patience through the process.
